The GCF group encourages the responsible drinking of its products in accordance with the limits set down by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in the 1980s. The risks associated with the consumption of alcoholic beverages increase above a certain limit. Frequently associated with social gatherings, the consumption of alcohol is harmful for the individual and society if excessive, can encourage inappropriate behaviour such as drunkenness and can even lead to addiction.
Low-risk consumption levels are defined in units. One unit of alcohol corresponds to 10g of pure alcohol. The WHO defines the responsible consumption of alcohol as:
1 unit of alcohol = 10cl of 12° wine
To encourage moderate alcohol consumption, we will be adopting a proactive approach in 2009.
In 2005, the French voted in an amendment to print a pictogram on alcoholic drinks to warn pregnant women of the dangers of alcohol. The GCF group decided to extend this measure outside the French borders. J.P. Chenet thus displays this image on its labelling in many countries around the world. The consumption of alcohol by pregnant women puts unborn babies at considerable risk and intoxicates the foetus.
